Crawl or Die

What is FearCast? -part 1

Many of you, here at this site, might be wondering "Just what is this FearCast thing anyway?"  You may have arrived here because you are a friend of one of ours, perhaps you met us at a convention or show, or perhaps you just stumbled in from the Internet and are wondering what sort of creepy establishment this is.

Well, firstly, I suppose I should introduce myself.  My name is Clyde and for all intents and purposes I own this little house we're in.  It was an idea that I had, and I must say that I'm very pleased at how it's turned out.

Now, you must understand that I am no island unto myself.  This "house" (to continue my metaphor) would hardly be a shabby tool-shed were it not for the help of some wonderful people.

By all accounts, I'm quite an intelligent individual.  I don't say that to brag, the label's been stuck on me be a number of people.  In this case, I must say that I'm at least smart enough to be able to say that I don't know everything.

You see, I'm not a very good fan of things, it seems.  I don't always have a good encyclopedic knowledge of every nook and cranny of whatever it is that I'm a fan of.  I used to do that, but I don't anymore.  So, in fact, I'm a terrible horror fan.  Often, I'm being introduced to a guest who I am to interview at some show while, simultaneously, being handed notes or getting coaching on just who this fine person is and what wonderful contributions to the genre they've made!  I'm in love with the IDEA of horror, maybe not all the technical aspects of it.  (Though, I am an avid movie credit watcher.  I hate fighting the crowd, so I sit patiently through the credits and walk out at my ease.  I must admit to a small joy when I see a name that I recognize, typically someone I've interviewed or had drinks with.)

Well, having admitted that there's no way to do this myself, I had to go recruiting.  It just so happens that I have a wonderful friend, named Ogre, who has apparently at one time or another in his life met Everybody.  I've quite literally had a conversation via the internet with someone from Germany who, by the end of the discussion realized we were telling stories of the same individual!

Ogre is, in many ways, the driving force behind the laying of the very foundations of this house (there's that metaphor again).  He made us a number of contacts, nearly drowned me in a deluge of brainstormed ideas, and a few times kept me going when I feared that this thing could never happen.  I frequently remember having to caution him to wait and walk first and run later early on, but ultimately he did a great number of things to keep me from just canning the whole thing.

One of the things that Ogre did was suggest columnists, and thus we got D and Dixi added to the mix.  The addition of columnists also necessitated my recruitment of The Grammar Nazi to edit all these words coming in.  Furthermore, D has frequently kept us running harder and harder now and continues to make a number of new contacts and deals, always coming to me to see if it was a good thing (thus far, my response has been a bewildered and nigh-unto shell-shocked thumbs up).

Pretty soon, we also inherited Monster and Caleb.  Monster brings us a bit more of what Ogre and D already had - a vast and voracious knowledge of this genre.  Each of the three have their own specialty and flavour, and I have no doubt that I could never stump them with trivia.  Caleb, on the other hand, is a bit of a newbie - a veritable virgin to the horror scene.  He has agreed to provide us with something we all might have forgotten: that first look at something.

Lastly, there was a growing website to handle, and it was starting to get away from me.  I have a friend, the Tech Zombie, who I often refer people to.  I know a thing or forty about computers and even web design, but if something stumps me I go to him.  Think of him as the doctor that other doctors go to when sick.  He keeps our site running smoothly and has done more than a few things to it that I would have never thought of.

So there you have it.  This is my house, but I can't really lay a total claim to it anymore.  I suppose I was merely an architect in the end.  Many people have built it up, and we're still adding additions.

For now, "Welcome to my house! Enter freely. Go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring!"
