It is I, the KillSawKing, here to review the BCRS production, 13th Sign.

The film begins in the 1930's giving us a small backstory on some of the characters. Basically there's a group of seemingly immortal baddies called the guardians that want to complete a ritual and open the gates to hell. In order to do so there must be a sacrifice from each of the signs of the zodiac, and the victims bodies are used to create an alter to bring about the supposed end by 12-21-2012. The first attempt in the 30's failed. Patience however does seem to be one of the guardians' virtues. Fast forward to present day. Now 12 more from the zodiac are selected along with their loved ones to compete in a reality TV show featuring their zodiac signs. The TV show turns out to be a front and a fight for survival ensues as the guardians begin picking them off one by one.

I personally feel that this movie is a complete success and is the direction I would like to see many indie horror films follow. What I mean by this is that the acting and the visual style are most definitely what seperates this film from the rest. The story isn't particularly original and the climax isn't the most satisfying. With that said, what the film does right surpasses whatever expectations people will have. The scenes from the 1930's are filmed brilliantly and make you really feel like you're in that period. The gore is plentiful and cleverly shot and the camera work and movement from scene to scene is superb. Lastly, my favorite part about this film, the acting!!! I want to give whomever cast this film a hug. Anyone who would question Mushroomhead members Jeff Hatrix and Waylon Reavis will be taken back by their performances. Jeff was creepy and sinister as the surgeon and Waylon as Farris was amazing in his articulation of that character. Not to mention the supporting cast's performances were just as well acted.

All in all I give this film a 4 out of 5 sicktastic stars, the only thing I hated about it was there wasn't more.

A Horror movie featuring the frontmen from Mushroomhead? It is the KillSawKing and I'm coming back at ya with a grand dose of revenge and dismemberment in Trent Hagga's torture porn - soon to live up to cult status great - CHOP.

First off, let's start of with the synopsis of this zany gorefest. Lance, our story's main character, is having a bad day. While driving to his destination on a seemingly harmless empty stretch of road, his car breaks down. His luck changes, however, when he is picked up by a motorist looking to help out. Only his luck doesn't change for the better - things definitely get worse. After a little uneasy conversing with the stranger we find out he has a past with our good friend Lance. Now with Lance kidnapped the stranger gives him a choice: murder his brother and live with it for the rest of his life, or the stranger will harm his beautiful wife. After a little pushing Lance commits the crime and is blackmailed into concealing it. We all know blackmails never go like we planned. So not to give any more of this fantastic venture away, I will only say what follows is a crazy revenge flick with great characters, tense moments, and killer gore to spare.

My personal feelings towards Chop are all rather positive. I liked the subtle set up and the zany (at times) cartoonish follow through. It really felt like the director never held back in this film and everyone enjoyed being a part of it. I thought the tense moments of the police trying figure out Lance's crime were incredible, and paired with Lance's ghoulish recollections of his evil deeds prior to meeting the stranger, made the film flow quite well. The characters were all pretty good and for the most part played really well. We get Paranoid Lance, one crazy murderous stranger, one-legged bikers and their evil psychotic friends who love chapstick, hot lesbian hookers, and many more. All in all the bottom line is, if you like crazy torture porn flicks with funny, well-acted characters and really talented directing... you need to see this.

Killsaw gives this indie horror treat a 4 out of 5 sictastic stars. (that's right, not regular stars... sicktastic ones)

I'm gonna change things up a bit. Instead of a movie this week. I give you Metal. Recently I attended a metal show and was totally blown away by one of the bands that played there. They were super impressive live. With blistering riffs, kick ass guitar solos, and vocals of epic proportion. Those things among many others will make this band a force in the thrash metal genre. They truly are a breath of fresh air. Without further adieu I give you HAMMERLORD!!!!!!!

Here is a part of their bio, in their words......

HAMMERLORD was formed in 2008 when drummer Adam Mitchell met guitarist Ty Scott. According to Mitchell, "At the time I was working at a local record store and Ty would come in once a week to raid the metal section, which I took much pride in maintaining. Naturally we became friends, and eventually started jamming." -Adam Mitchell
The chemistry between them was immediate and the two began demoing songs. Adam passed this material on to vocalist Stevie Cruz, who he was familiar with from doing time together in The Esoteric. "As soon as I heard what these dudes were up too I knew we had something heavy going on, so i dived right in and we started recording" -Stevie Cruz. That recording eventually became their debut full length. What started off as a fun recording project became a full fledged band when guitarist JP Gaughan, and bassist Terry Taylor (Blinding Light, Nodes Of Ranvier, Calgari) were recruited. Soon after the band began playing live.

As some say: The rest is history, but in the eyes of the band it was just the beginning. Currently, tours are being planned, and new video just filmed, in support of WOLVES AT WARS END. Look for the disc in stores and for the band who will be slaying a town near you very soon.

You're sitting at home bummed out from all of the summer blockbuster movies shoving special effects down your throat and calling it "epic". Well, today's movie not only shows you that you don't need money and effects to produce a truly memorable motion picture. So let me be that little birdie that opens your eyes to the incredible Norwegian horror fantasy, Troll Hunter.

The film begins with three students working on a film for one of their college courses. Featured in their film is a poacher that is being accused of poaching bears in the Norwegian wilderness, a form of hunting that is highly regulated and illegal without certain liscensing. As the team gets closer and closer to the "bear poacher" they find that bears are the least of their worries. What ensues is chaos of epic proportions... epic Troll proportions. Come to find out the bear hunter was comissioned by the Norwegian government to hunt and control the troll population.

Alright let's clear the air with the stuff that might not be so great about the film. It's a foreign film so you will have to read while watching it. It's a found footage film so in the same vain as Blair Witch and Cloverfield, so if you've got a problem with motion sickness you might want to stay clear. Finally, the effects must be forgiven at times for it is a low budget feature. Set all that aside and the movie turns out to be quite the treat. Truly a marvel in modern film making. It gives you an assortment of nasty trolls... three headed trolls, a bridge troll, packs of trolls, and finally the amazing mountain sized gigantic troll that is featured on the movie poster. The film does a really great job of making it feel like a documentary and the trolls for the most part look great in this style of film. See this film as soon as you can. It will leave you with that "holy crap I can't believe I just saw something as cool as that" feeling. On an end note, and a sad one at that, there is talk that a U.S. remake is already in the works. I'm starting to wonder myself if the American film will ever be original again. *tear*

Oh yeah I almost forgot...

"You guys think I'm crazy! Well, that's fine! Most of you don't know what's going on around here, but I'm damn well sure some of you do! You think that thing wanted to be an animal? No dogs make it a thousand miles through the cold! No, you don't understand! That thing wanted to be US!" (Dr. Blair, John Carpenter's The Thing).

KillSawKing Reviews Sucker Punch

Let us all relax. Let us lose all of our troubles. All of our worries. All of the everyday that makes reality real. Let's lose ourselves. And now to review this weeks pick, Sucker Punch.

Since this film is still on the newer side I will try not to give away any spoilers.

First off, do not go into this film without an open imagination, you will need it. The entire structure of the film is realized through the perception of the inmates at a mental facility. So we're not looking at reality. We are only looking though the imagination of patients dubbed mentally insane. Which for me, the experience was pretty fantastic. The movie opens with a drawn out seen of peril and misfortune that leads our protagonist, a beautiful girl who is given the nickname Baby Doll, into the grip of a mental institution where she awaits her scheduled lobotemy. In the time she has between being incarcerated and having her brain scrambled she rallies her fellow inmates to stage a grand escape from the facility. A feat that never had been realized, one that made the previous inmates who tried, dead. The escape is staged in about three grand scenes of fantasy. Three scenes that make the movie what it is. The first scene is where we find out the parameters of our journey, it has a sensei, the unveiling of the weapons one would need for a jouney of this magnitude, and a battle scene against gigantic samurai. The next scene is a wartime fantasy that is very reminiscent of steampunk culture. We have steam powered zombies, a mechanized suit of armor and one badass scene. The next fantasy, involves a Lord of the Rings aproach. Goblins and knights, and a battles with a grand dragon. One of the last fantasies features a runaway train and a battle with robotic guards. All in all I feel like this movie is the kick in the balls the modern motion picture needs. Sexy girls, amazing battle sequences, and great storytelling by being visually appealing and not sacrificing the great lengths that our imagination can go. When all is said and done go see this film. You won't be dissappointed.

For this article I feel I should set up my ending movie quote for it is lengthy, but one of my favorite quotes and scenes in any movie. I feel it is powerful and that it can be used with this movie (the opening scene in Sucker Punch and what happens to Baby Doll's sister). "Why? Why the innocent Punished? Why the sacrifice? Why the pain? There aren't any promises, nothing is certain. Only that some get called, some get saved. She won't ever know the hardship and grief of those of us left behind. We commit these bodies to the void with a glad heart. For within each seed there is a promise of a flower. Within each death no matter how small. There's always a new life, a new beginning. Amen." (Charles S. Dutton, Alien 3)

AAH! ZOMBIES!!!

Don't worry you didn't find your way into the zombie apocalypse, you're in KillSawKing's Kourt. Today I'm reviewing the goofy, funny, yet still brilliant zombie film AAH! ZOMBIES!!!

In this tale of zombie horror we begin with an idea that is all too familiar. The military is testing a high level toxin in hopes of turning its soldiers into super human wrecking machines. Instead, they become the vicious and relentless re-animated corpses we have all grown to love, Zombies. In an attempt to get rid of the zombie serum and cover up their experiments the liquid is sent away on a military truck never to be seen or heard from again. Except, the truck crashes of course. It gets in a group of friends soft-serve ice cream. The friends all turn into Zombies, and with the serum spread all around a zombie rampage ensues and we have our film AAH! ZOMBIES!!!

Hey, wait a minute. That can't be it. That's like every freakin' zombie movie ever made. Don't worry that's not it. This film plays its trump card and shows us the perspective of the zombies. Zombies that don't think they're zombies at all. They think they're super soldiers. When I heard the plot and the overall idea of this movie I was super skeptical. Zombies from a first person perspective, how in the hell is that going to work? Well it does. Not only is it hilarious and frightening at the same time (mostly hilarious), it has great camera work and an awesome director. Anyone who like zombies will find this film fantastically amusing.

So here is how they do it:

When you're seeing the film from the zombies view, it is filmed with vibrant color and the zombies are shown as the normal people they were and still think they are.

When we're seeing from everybody else's view, we see a black and white film and ravenous creatures with a Night of the Living Dead likeness. Trust me it's pretty awesome.

Sooooo. Let me give just a few reasons to watch this great zombie movie that comes bearing a great twist on the genre:

It's got Zombies and doesn't suck

It's got zombies

Who doesn't like zombies?

Just watch it already it's got zombies

Did I mention Zombies?

This has been another adventure in KillSawKing's Kourt and kids "I think we're gonna need a bigger boat"(Jaws, Roy Scheider)

KillSawKing's Kourt reviews Doghouse

WOMEN!!!! They're murderous, cutthroat, evil beings hell-bent on destroying all the male population. No, I'm not in a knockdown drag-out with my lady friend. So actually they're also blood thirsty, mutated and cannibalistic. Or at least they are in this week's pick. Today in KillSawKing's Kourt I give you the IFC horror romp Doghouse.

So there's a wide array of blokes (the film is British). One is a womanizer, one has anger issues, one is a comic book nerd, and with six of these quirky yet likeable fellows we get the start of our film. One of our blokes, Vince, just got divorced, and just like good friends will be, they want to take him to a calm, relaxing retreat - full of drinking your sorrow away - in the beautiful, quaint little town of Moodley. Just one little problem - when they arrive the town happens to be barren and blood-spattered. With a little more investigating they find a military presence and a whole lot of problems. Estrogen-filled, maniac, biological zombie problems... with a toxin in the air that turns any female who breathes into a creature of mass destruction. Our jolly good friends have a big problem. With no escape and a bleak hope for survival our blokes are pushed to the limit. Will they survive? Or will they be next on the menu for these amazonic, hellion, maneaters.

So the low down. This film kicks all kinds of serious ass. It takes its source material serious, and at the same time adds some pretty unforgetable humor. The film kinda reminds me of the Evil Dead series, and you can tell the director does this on purpose (he even references the comic within the film). It has some fantastic gore that gives us a good splatterhouse feel and some environments that are just freakin' cool. They use the town as well as they can to survive, and each new shop that they hide in (toy stores, clothing shops, the butcher shop, etc.) gives us a new and different setting for the chaos. It really feels like different levels in a survival horror game. There's a wide array of different cannibal women, and even a really valid explanation of why only the women are affected. This film hits the mark. I mean, if you like to have fun... and watch movies that are actually good... and have good gore... and now I'm just rambling.

So let's ramble a little more and break it down rapid style:

Great antagonist

Unforgetable humor

Great setting

Great story

Superb acting

Definitely a movie to watch if you want to fill that "nothing can ever be as good as Evil Dead or Shaun of the Dead" void
