Mach III
The 3rd Sci-Fi / Anime / Fantasy Film Festival

29 June - 5 July 2012
The Labia Theatre (68 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town, ZA)

The 3rd chapter of the CELLUDROID Sci-Fi / Anime / Fantasy Film Festival will light up the sky at the Labia Theatre on Orange Street across 29 June - 5 July
(with a book event 27 June).
A not-to-be-missed line-up of indie feature films, short films, classics and documentaries will tele-pod you to another world.
Two chapters created at the South African HorrorFest make their way to Celludroid for the first time, including the Bloody Parchment literary section with a book launch, and a spectacular live movie soundtrack performance.  Velocity also returns with local comic book and graphic novel creators showcasing their work.
(The majority of the movies will have their South African and/or African theatrical premieres).
THE MOVIES (full schedule & times at the end of this message):
The stellar line-up will include:
METROPOLIS
With a live Makabra Ensemble original soundtrack performance
(One show only - booking essential)
The 7th silent motion picture scored by The Makabra Ensemble is Fritz Lang's legendary 1927 futuristic classic METROPOLIS. The Makabra Ensemble has performed their soundtracks to a range of classic silent films since 2005 at the South African HorrorFest Film Festival, Oppi Koppi Music Festival and Sound & Motion Studios' White Room Sessions.  This will be their first performance at a Celludroid event.  The group consists of members from Terminatryx, Lark, Mr. Sakitumi, V.O.D and Matthijs Van Dijk, utilizing a range of instruments from electric guitar, bass, drums, percussion and voice, to programming, samples, synths, wind instruments, violin and more, to breathe new life into these landmark films.
In the world of Metropolis the suffering workers live and struggle underground while the privileged basks high up in their towers.  A woman who may be the saviour of the downtrodden is replaced by a cyborg to sow division and destruction!

BLOODY PARCHMENT LITERATURE (27 June):
We're proud to announce the launch of Nerine Dorman's INKARNA, a novel of ancient Egyptian myth and magic set in a contemporary Cape Town.
Death is not the end when your enemies can hunt you down throughout eternity.  Elizabeth Rae Perry underestimated the dangers associated with immortality when she joined an ancient Egyptian reincarnation cult.  And, as one of the magic-wielding Inkarna, she’s about to discover exactly how wrong things can go.
The Cape Town author (and co-ordinator of Flamedrop & The HorrorFest's Bloody Parchment events) will launch INKARNA (two days before the movie leg of Celludroid) at The Book Lounge, 71 Roeland Street, on Wednesday June 27 - 5:30pm for 6pm.
Additional info: nerinedorman@gmail.com
Sonja Ruppersberg (Flamedrop Productions & Celludroid / HorrorFest co-organiser) will have a live chat with Dorman about her work at The Book Lounge launch event.
